Tanztheater Wuppertal opens its new season on Friday and Saturday (6 and 7 October) with PLAYtime. Dancers, musicians, actors, singers and special guests will perform on the stage and in other spaces throughout the opera house. Dance interventions, video installations, „small selection“ with excerpts from pieces of Pina Bausch will give a first impression on the new season to come. The Pina Bausch Foundation will join the PLAYtime program with the following contributions:
Ricardo Viviani will present on Saturday October 7th at 2 pm the lecture “Pina Bausch & New York – a Timeline” The lecture deals with Pina Bausch’s studies and visits to New York from the late 50s to the early 70s. New facts and documents from oral history interviews and archival research will be presented to the public for the first time. The one-hour lecture will be held in German and in English language.
The transmission of a dance role is the focus in the video documentation “Anders weitergeben. Breanna O’Mara lernt Pina Bauschs Stück 1980 von Anne Martin.”. This video is a recording of a public rehearsal which took place in the context of the exhibition “Pina Bausch und das Tanztheater” in the Bundeskunsthalle Bonn in 2016. Anne Martin, former dancer of Tanztheater Wuppertal was part of the creation process of “1980”. The documentation shows the two dancers working together for the very first time in search of the movement qualities behind a solo danced by Anne Martin in “1980”. The screening of the video will take place on Saturday, 11 am at the Backstage Theatre inside the Opera.
The Foundation is delighted to see the Nelken line once again in Wuppertal.
