Dominique Mercy has been a dancer at the Tanztheater Wuppertal for 45 years. He is involved in the creation of 32 pieces by Pina Bausch. Pina Bausch dies in 2009. Dominique Mercy takes over the artistic direction of Tanztheater Wuppertal for four years, together with Robert Sturm.

Jan Minařík worked as a dancer in Wuppertal from 1970. In 1973, Pina Bausch took him on in her newly formed Tanztheater Wuppertal. He was part of the ensemble until 2000. He was involved in the creation of 36 of Pina Bausch's pieces.

Vivienne Newport is a dancer and choreograph from Bristol (UK). She is member of the Tanztheater Wuppertal from 1973 to 1981, during which time she participated in the creation of 14 pieces from Pina Bausch.

In 1973 the director of the Wuppertal theatres Arno Wüstenhöfer appointed Pina Bausch head of the Wuppertal Ballet, which she soon renamed the Tanztheater Wuppertal.

Fritz is Pina Bausch's first piece with Tanztheater Wuppertal. It was performed a total of 16 times during the 1973/74 season. At its premiere on 5 January 1974, it was shown together with Rodeo by Agnes de Mille and Kurt Jooss' The Green Table.
